    MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Dorothy Brown Baum, 68, of 3470 Riverside Drive, Mount Airy, wife of Mr. James E. "Jim" Baum, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at her home. Mrs. Baum was born in Surry County on Jan. 16, 1937, to Merlin Sparger and Sarah Phoebe Bondurant Brown. She was a loving wife, mother and sister, retired from Cross Creek Apparel, and a member of Hunters Chapel Church. Surviving are her husband, Jim Baum of the home; a daughter, Carol Scales of Charlotte; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Terrie Scales of Ararat, Va., Merlin Scales of the home and Brenda Scales of Ararat; a stepson, James E. Baum of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Chad Scales, Travis Scales and Tiffany Scales, all of Ararat; a great-grandson, David Lee Scales of Ararat; a sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Brown Carter of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Edith Brown of Mount Airy; and a special cousin, Jo "Perky" Slate of Claudville, Va. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baum was preceded in death by a son, David Scales; and a brother, Joe Bill Brown. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Hunters Chapel Church, and be conducted by the Rev. Darren Slate and the Rev. John McCann. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the home, 3470 Riverside Drive, Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hunters Chapel Church c/o John McCann, 520 Farmbrook Rd., Mount Airy, NC 27030.

    Well, I guess it does help somehow, I've had some fun with this this evening... found out
    I'm distantly related to my fiance's cousin's wife. If nothing else I got a good laugh. thanks, your third cousin three times removed lol! I also have a son just so that you know if you're continuing to add to this list, as I'm sure it is very time consuming. My son's name is also David. I guess he is the only one to carry out this "branch" of the tree at this time as I only have one male cousin with the last name of Scales. My uncle Lloyd and his wife Terrie have two children, Travis and Tiffany. Merlin has no children, and has never been married, well yet anyway. I almost forgot, I thought that the browns were related to J.E.B. Stuart, I looked and didn't see his name on the list, and I know it's probably that I missed it. Well, it's nice to kinda meet you, my third cousin three times removed... chad
