This is my wife. I don't need any other documentation about her. - David W. Marshall, Sr.

Betsy was in Palmetto Richland Hospital when she died. She was in the hospital for two weeks as they diagnosed her condition. It was Metastatic Breast Cancer. She declined rapidly and on Monday morning, September 17, 2018 she took her last breath.

I was by her bed, along with my daughter, Susan, and my son, David, when she died. At about 10:30 am she became agitated and struggled for breath. She coughed raggedly and struggled to get a breath. Then she settled down for a few minutes. At 11:00 am she was again agitated and struggled to breath. She coughed two or three times, raised her head up off the bed and lowered it back down. She stopped breathing. I felt for her heart and it was not beating. She was gone.

She was a good woman and worked with hundreds of children at Lexington United Methodist Church over the years, guiding their faith journeys.

    I miss her greatly.

She was cremated and interred in the Greenlawn Memorial Park Main Columbarium II 3 C

    Notes:

Maggie was delivered by an emergency C-Section on Monday morning. She was not moving around in the womb as she should and was not taking in amniotic fluid. She was diagnosed as having a high probability of a genetic defect known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMS). The test results should be coming back this week (3/25/2007) and we will know definitely if she has SMS and what her survival expectations are. Right now her physical appearance is very good. She is being fed her mother's milk through a tube in the throat. She digests the milk well and her breathing is good.

September 2009 - Maggie's condition is undiagnosed. Many tests have been done, but the underlying cause of her problems cannot be identified. She continues to be very fragile medically, but she is responding well to her therapy. She shows an inner fortitude that seems to be saying, "I am not going to give up."

    Obituary of Margaret Ellen Cafferty

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Ellen Cafferty. Maggie passed away peacefully on February 24, 2023.

Maggie was born in Lexington, SC on March 19, 2007, to parents Susan and Brendan Cafferty. She is survived by her three siblings: Reilly and John Cafferty, and Daniel Maltz (fiancé, Renée LeValle); her best (pup) friend, Scotty; grandparents, Thomas and Loretta Cafferty, and David Marshall, Sr.; aunts and uncles, Ann Byess (Jeff), Carolyn Cafferty, and David Marshall, Jr. (Amber); and, cousins, Joseph and William Parsons, Katie and Zack True. Maggie is predeceased by her grandmother, Ruth ?Betsy? Talbot Marshall.

In 2007, Maggie was born premature, and her life was marked with many medical complications. However, Maggie stayed true to her Irish heritage and fought daily to overcome her physical limitations. She always maintained a positive attitude and made the most of her relationships. To meet her was to love her. A special thank you to her nurse, Laura Blevins, for her years of excellent care.

Maggie, a proud Lexington High School student, loved her family, Disney princesses, singing and music, having her nails done, and all things purple. Maggie never let her limitations keep her from enjoying life.

She enjoyed spending time at her grandparents? house in Kiawah Island, and in Myrtle Beach with her Godfather, Jared Hendrix and his wife, Meg. She especially loved spending time in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. The highlight of her life was a Disney Cruise provided by the Make-a-Wish foundation.

Maggie loved all music, especially listening to her brother, Daniel. Her favorite songs were ?Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,? ?Skinnamarink,? and ?If You?re Happy and You Know It.?
