    Hello David:
Well, it took long enough, but I finally got around to getting this ready to send to you. I can't find in your database where you have anything on the family of my uncle, who was James Howard Marshall and his son, James Howard Marsahll, Jr. It seems my cousin sorta disappeared because of a dispute with his dad, and settled out West. Anyway, his son Jr., had four offspring which is shown on the attachment. Cheri is living in Arizona now and came over several years ago for the family reunion.

Here are the dates of death of my parents:
Arthur Vance Marshall, Sr. died August 15, 1997
Gladys Adeline Marshall died October 10, 2000

Let me know how this mail comes through to you ok and if I can be of any further help

    Arthur Marshall (Sonny)

P.S. My parents died in Asheville, NC and buried in Charlotte, NC

    Thanks
    Arthur

I send this e-mail with a heavy heart to let you know of the passing of one of our most beloved family members.

Janet Young called this morning and informed me that Gwen Durham had died last night (Wednesday). Mandy Adams had informed Janet early this morning. At that time details were not worked out, and now, with many thanks to Mandy for her love and devotion to Gwen and Shelton, the details have been finalized. I just spoke with Janet again and here is what we have: The burial will take place this coming Saturday, March 4th. The body will be at Walkers Funeral Home on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill until Saturday at approximately 1:00 or 1:30 p.m. Then there will be a graveside service only at Cedar Grove Methodist Church at 2;00 p.m. which is on Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro. Janet advises that if anyone is wishing to view the body, they need to do so at the Funeral Home prior to 1:00 or 1:30 when it will be moved to the Church cemetary.

Mandy indicated to Janet that Shelton was doing ok at this time. If I can answer any questions any of you may have, please give me a call; home phone (Private)

Subject: The passing of Christine Russell

    All,
The Russell family regrets to inform you that their wonderful mother, Mrs. Christine T. Russell passed away peacefully Thursday December 11, 2014 at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell GA. Christine passed away surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Christine was born January 26, 1924 in Winston-Salem NC, to the late Dewy and Macie Turner. Upon graduation from Lincoln High School she attended Mitchell College in Statesville NC where she studied Business.

Christine grew up with four sisters: Carolyn Costner, Eleanor Brinkley, (the late) Evelyn Aycock, and (the late)Marilyn Henderson.
The overwhelming joy of Christine's life was her family. She was a devoted wife of the late Floyd A. Russell Jr. (Lieutenant Navy Ret.) who were married on December 16, 1944 in Pensacola FL. She was also a dedicated mother and grandmother that supported all endeavors of her family. Christine never missed an opportunity to speak fondly of her children, Floyd A. Russell III and wife Claudia, Beverly R. Davis and husband Larry, and Chuck H. Russell and wife Ellen.

Christine was warm hearted and loved by all that knew her. To her friends she was a treasure that was irreplaceable, always a phone call away. Her neighbors remember her as giving soul always thinking others.
One of Christine's greatest pleasures and joys in life was being a Grandmother. She always showed great love and patience in the rearing of her grandchildren. The values and life lessons she lived and taught to her family and friends will be an inspiration forever. She was cherished by all seven of her grandchildren: Benjamin Russell, Mandy Russell, Christina Russell, Chas Russell, (the late) Kaelen Russell, Michelle Davis, and Andy Davis.

Christine later moved from Charlotte NC, after raising her children to Chambrell in Roswell,GA and in her words, an "exclusive" senior living community, where she continued her numerous hobbies. Christine was an avid artist and enjoyed painting, pottery, drawing and making her prized bread flowers. She repeatedly shared her knowledge and love for imagination with all she encountered. As an exquisite baker Christine warmed the hearts and bellies of those she loved with her cakes and famous chocolates. Her baking talents have traveled the world and even comforted American Soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, where they coined the name "Nana's Chocolates".

Christine had a life filled with love, adventure, joy and inspiration. Through the years she taught us to love our friends and neighbors unconditionally and to cherish the moments we have. The impact of her loss cannot be described in words alone, only felt. She will live on forever in the hearts of all that knew her and will be eternally remembered as the thoughtful, caring human being that she was.

A service to celebrate Christine's inspiring life will be held at 12:00 pm Sunday, December 14th in Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road Charlotte, NC.

We love you all for including her in your family communications and hope that you will include us in the future.

    Thank you all....Love,

    Chuck Russell

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Momma died peacefully at the Kate B. Reynolds hospice home here in Winston Salem. Momma was so very special to so many, including the hospice nurses that got to know Momma since November 14th. Momma had no pain and wanted no treatment or major drugs for her pancreatic cancer and I believe this allowed her to have a more natural, peaceful death. The care and attention we all received from hospice will allow my sister Meredith and I to have a peace and contentment that will carry us through the rest of our lives. Momma will be buried today at God's acre in Old Salem in the women's section just a few rows from my sister Ellie. Sincerely Amanda Marshall Adams Momma's obit is available at the Salem Funeral Home's website: http://www.salemfh.com/obitsList.aspx

Dear David: Thank you so very much. I didn't realize I had put .com instead of .net and that does make a difference. I will send out the corrected change to those I haven't heard from since I changed to verizon.net.

I went to the funeral of Doris Gwendolyn (Everhart) Everhart yesterday in Thomasville, NC and I had planned to email you that information today, which I will do under separate cover. She is one of our Marshall descendants through Martin Marshall and his first wife. She and I became acquainted years ago and became best of friends in addition to being genealogy pals. I'm going to miss her. She lived in Thomasville, Davidson County, NC for many years, but after becoming disabled with cancer and her husband is semi-invalid and couldn't take care of her, both moved in with their daughter Teresa (?) Gail (Everhart) Palmer (called "Gail") in Richmond, VA and that is where she died (at her daughter's home: 801 Ashington Place, Richmond, VA 23236-4174). Her body was shipped back to Thomasville, NC and buried in the Emanuel Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery where she was a member.

That funeral was the first one I had ever attended that mentioned genealogy in the bible, which they read off about 42 generations from the bible and then they told of Doris' love of family history and her tireless work on her genealogy, including her Everhart Family History she had published some years ago. To my knowledge she never had any Marshall Family History published. She had a computer to store her work, but was not connected to the internet.

Thanks again for your message regarding the .com vs the .net. Sincerely,

    Ruth

It is with sad news I report about Shelton Durham (son of Gwendolyn Marshall Durham):

I received a phone call from the assisted living facility where Shelton lives, Crescent Green, in Carrboro today about 4PM. I was advised that Shelton collapsed there and has died. The facility/EMTs performed CPR for 45 minutes to no avail. It appears to have been a heart attack, but not confirmed. I will be going to Carrboro in the morning to make arrangements for Shelton. He had a prepaid plan at Walker's funeral home in Chapel Hill on Franklin Street. I will e-mail you all with more details as soon as they are made. I am anticipating a grave side service for him at Cedar Grove Methodist Church, on Jones Ferry Road in Pittsboro NC later this week. Shelton was 67.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. 336-406-1468

Shelton's graveside service will be Thursday, July 24. Below is a copy of the draft obit sent to the Durham Herald Sun newspaper. The obit will run on Wednesday:

"Shelton Reid Durham, born 1-23-1947, passed away on July 21, 2014.
Shelton was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Reid Durham and Stella Gwendolyn Marshall Black Durham (Gwen Durham). Shelton is survived by many cousins. Shelton was born and raised in Carrboro, NC on Oak Avenue. He was an avid fan of UNC-Chapel Hill, Ford Mustangs, motorcycles and anything patriotic. He enjoyed being a member of the Mustang Club of America for many years. He loved the beach and just walking along the shore for hours. Shelton was a long time resident of Crescent Green Assisted Living in Carrboro, NC. He was a gentle soul, with the patience of Job, who will be missed by family and many friends. A special thank you to Shelton?s friend and mentor, Steve Lackey. Steve's friendship and guidance gave Shelton strength, confidence and peace of mind. A graveside service will be performed at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 2791 Jones Ferry Rd, Pittsboro, NC 27312, on Thursday at 4PM. The family requests no flowers, but donations may be made Cedar Grove United Methodist Church fund to save the church."
