    In Memoriam

One among the saddest deaths that has ever occurred in Mount Airy was that of May Etta, daughter of W. D. and Flora SAUNDERS. She patiently succumbed to that dreadful disease, consumption, and went to the reward of the faithful. The deceased had been sick eleven months, and despite all the human power could accomplish a loving, noble and precious daughter passed away. She leaves four sisters and two brothers. She died Thursday at six o'clock p.m. December 24, 1908, which made it a sad Christmas for the family. May Etta was 20 years old at the time of her death. She died happy in the love of Jesus, met death bravely, saying come dear Savior and take me away. She was laid to rest in Salem graveyard, Saturday, December 26. At the grave a large concourse of friends and relatives stood to pay their last tribute of love and respect to the one they knew. As the minister consigned the remains to earth, tears of sympathy demonstrated the love and respect for the dead. While we may not understand we that it was God's will to pluck this beautiful flower from earth to heaven to bloom there forever. We trust to meet again in that land where there will be no more parting, no more frost to smite the flowers. - A Friend.
