Dear David,
I just found your web page of the Marshall genealogy. I am the g.g.g. granddaughter of Richard Marshall, born before 1760 in Calvert County MD, married Mary Boswell. Their son Richard Marshall, born in 1790, married 1st Elizabeth Rhodes and moved to Saline County, MO with 5 children. She died and then he married 2nd wife Jane Goin. Their first child was Joseph Marshall, my
g. grandfather. I was raised on his farm in Saline County. His 10th child was my grandfather, Winfield Scott Hancock Marshall, born in 1880 and died in 1966. My father was James Lynch Marshall, born June 16, 1923, died Dec. 12, 1990. I have inherited all the records of the Marshall's who came to Missouri and could give you some information that I did not find on your web page. Namely, the names of all the children of Richard and Jane Goin and alot of their descendants.
We have always thought that Richard Marshall was born in 1730, but I believe that he probably was born sometime in the 1750's.
I knew some of Richard Marshall's children went to Stokes County, N.C. and 3 sons came to Missouri, but I did not know the relationship between Richard and Martin. I only had proof that Richard had a brother William who has many descendants in Albemarle county. I went their in the 80's and visited with a wife of some Marshall who was interested in family genealogy. Mildred Marshall, I think. Anyway, we have alot of history here. There is a Marshall family cemetery that is maintained by our family and is in the southeast part of this county. It is located on the original land that belonged to Richard and Jane. Elizabeth died before they actually lived in Saline County. They first originated across the Missouri River in the area known as Old Franklin, which was wiped away when the Missouri river flooded in the early 1820's. They moved into Saline county some time after that.
Just for your information, Richard Marshall and his 2nd wife Jane Goin, had 6 living children and 2 died in infancy. They were
Joseph, Julia Ann m. Richard Thorp, Sarah M. (not married), James M. m. Amanda Hanley, Mary Jane m. Thomas Thorp, and Susan (not married). Joseph Marshall had 12 children. 2 by his first wife, Mary Porter, and 10 by his 2nd wife Elizabeth Missouri Lynch. They were Richard Allen and Mary Elizabeth by his first wife, and Mary Donaphin, Jane Annis, Robert Lee, James Monroe, Joseph Louis, Evelyn McNair, Jeanette Bell, Estella Hall, Winfield Scott Hancock, and William Benjamin. I have all the info on these 12 children. Please let me know if you are interested in any of this information.
Sincerely,
Pamela Marshall Stouffer pstouffer@cdsinet.net
Mary married Joseph MARSHALL on 18 Mar 1853 in Boomville, Cooper County, Missouri. Joseph (son of Richard MARSHALL, Jr. and Jane GOIN) was born on 26 Mar 1827 in Arrow Rock, Saline County, Missouri; died on 30 Jun 1900 in Nelson, Saline County, Missouri; was buried in Jul 1900 in Nelson, Saline County, Missouri.
