This was in the Naples paper today. Steve learned from their church newsletter that services are pending Linnie's recovery from back surgery. His funeral is not scheduled at Arlington through 'wed. of next week.

      Max Talbot Jr.

Max Verne Talbot Jr. (Col., U.S. Army, Ret.) Marco Island, FL
Col. Max Verne Talbot Jr., (U.S. Army Retired), died peacefully in Naples, FL on July 8, 2009 surrounded by his wife of almost 38 years, Linnie, and daughters, Elizabeth Talbot Silva (Rick) of Union City, CA and Dorothy Talbot (Marcus) of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by brotherin-law, Ralph Sawyer (Karolynn) of Austin, TX; and by grandchildren, Dru Martin Groves, Kelee Silva, and Aimee Silva.
Max was a loving husband and father as well as a dedicated career Army officer. Born in Palo Alto, CA on July 21, 1920, Max graduated from U.S. Military Academy at West Point in June, 1943. He served in World War II, Korean Conflict, and Viet Nam Conflict before retiring in 1973 after 30 years of distinguished service. His awards include a Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster (two), and Bronze Star medal. He maintained close contact with a wide circle of military and civilian friends around the world. Max was a true gentleman, appreciated for his intelligence and sense of humor.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Max Verne Talbot Sr, and Ruth Williams Talbot of New Port Richey, FL; brother, John Talbot of Columbia, SC; sisters, Ellen Lacy of St. Louis, MO and Jane Morris of New Port Richey, FL; and his first wife, Minerva E. Mann Talbot.
He married Linnie Marie Stubbs in 1971 and they retired to Marco Island, FL in 1979. Max worked for H&R Block on the island for more than 20 years and became a trusted tax advisor for many residents.
Max's cremains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations be sent to United Church of Marco Island, 320 North Barfield Drive, Marco Island, FL 34145 or to any other charity of the donor's choice.

Linnie called this evening and requested that I inform each of you that Max died on July 8th of congestive heart failure--just short of his 89th birthday. She stated that Elizabeth was with her now.

When I asked about funeral arrangements, her response was muffled. I couldn't tell whether she said there would be no memorial service or that one had already taken place. She did state that he was to be buried in Arlington "with his family". They have requested that memorials be sent to their church.

Linnie called from a Naples, FL number (Private), which is different from the Marco Island number I had for them.
