      Second Generation

      2. Peyton Owen (Thomas 1) was born in North Carolina circa 1816.[12] Peyton died before August 1896 in Surry County, N. C.[13]


      He married Eliza Ann Marion in Surry County, N. C. Their marriage bond is dated June 25, 1844. Leonard Scott served as bondsman. Eliza was born circa 1826 in Surry County.[14] Eliza died March 1885 at approximately 58 years of age. She was buried March 28, 1885 in Surry County, N. C. Peyton was employed as a farmer in Surry County, N. C.[15] His will was probated August 1869 in Surry County, North Carolina. John Martin Owen was his executor.[16]

      Peyton Owen and Eliza Marion had the following children:

      i. Thomas Owen was born in N. C. circa 1846.[17] He married Susan Poindexter Nov. 25, 1873. Mary Susan Poindexter was the daughter of Mary Taylor and William Ashburn Poindexter. They had three Children: Julius Peyton Owen m. Eliza Scott, Byron Owen m. Lucy Scott and Ellen Owen m. William Henry Hauser

      Julius Peyton Owen b. March 17, 1875, d. March 6, 1941 married Eliza Scott, daughter of Angelina Hunt and Adam Hauser Scott. They had eight children, both Eliza and baby Azile dying in 1922. Eliza, Julius, baby Azile Are buried in the Shoals Methodist Cemetery with Baby Francis, Paul Owen, Lemmie and Ray Owen.

      Children of Julius Peyton and Eliza Owen:

      1. Ervin Owen m. Elsie Spainhour, One child Eroll, m. Robert Sane.

      2. Ellen Owen b. Aug 25, 1906 m. Roy Hauser on July 6, 1924, adopted one girl, Sadie Hauser m. Burt Barger

      3. Elsie Owen m. Roscoe Hauser b. May 31, 1895; d. 1956 (no offspring)

      4. Adam Owen m. Dolly - (They had six children and Adam was a barber in Roanoke, Va. So far as I know all six children are alive, had families and are living in Roanoke)

      5. Arthur Owen m. Blanche Spencer - (They had five offspring, one girl who died at age seven and four boys, The oldest, Bobby lived in New Jersey and had a family there, Spencer died in the 70’s, Aubrey is a physian and lives in Richmond and Jerry who has a family and lives in Va.)

      6. Paul Owen m. Louise (They had two children, Scott and Diane in High Point, N. C. Then Paul married three more times having two offspring by the second marriage.)

      7. Ray Coell Owen b. 2-7-1918; d. 2-6-1992 married 7-15-1935 to Lemmie Jeddie Bowen b. 2-10-1917; d. 3-4-1996. They had two daughters, Shirley Ann Owen b. 3-13-36 m. 6-6-1959 to Dr. James Mark Mahan-they have three sons and reside in Bloomington, IN ,

      8. Nancy Josephine Owen b. 9-10-1937 m. Horace Gail Tuttle - (They have four children and six grandchildren and reside in Davie Co. N. C.)


      5 ii. Mary An n Owen b. abt. 1847 in Surry, N. C. m. Frank Davis Sept 22, 1889 Pilot Township Lic # 976.

      6 iii. Henry F. Owen b. 10-29-1850 in Surry Co, N. C. m. Malinda Allen 1-13-1881. In the 1850 Census Henry gave his age as 49 and said he had been married 19 years. They had in the 1850 Census 8 living offspring, 0ne boy and seven girls.

      7 iv. Peyton Owen Jr. b. abt. 1851 m. Susan Fulk m. 1-18-1877 in Surry, N. C. Lic # 2872. They had three children: Henry W. Owen b. circa 1878, Joseph Owen b. 9-1880 and daughter Owen b. 9-17-1892.

      8 v. Eliza Jane Owen was born in North Carolina circa 1854[18] She married Joseph Mickey August 14, 1884 in Yadkin. Township, Stokes Co., N. C

      9 vi. Nancy C. Owen was born in Surry co., N. C. Oct. 8, 1858. Nancy died July 28, 1917 in Pinnacle, Stokes County, North Carolina at age 58, She was buried July 29, 1917 in the Pinnacle Methodist Church Cemetery. She married Albert Lindsey Jackson Nov. 23, 1882.

      10 vii. Sarah Permelia Owen b. abt 1861 She married John Choplin

      11 viii. Lucy Owen b. May 17, 1863 in Shoals, N. C. d. 2-3-1943 in Sanford, N. C. She married George W. Allem on June 2, 1889 in Surry, N. C. (William was the son of William Allen and MaryBowen) They had four children: William Peyton Allen, Lula Mae Allen, John Thomas allen sr., and George Nathaniel Allen.

      12 ix. John Martin Owen b. Oct 16, 1866 d. Feb. 2, 1938 at 71 years of age. He married Laura Florence Barber. Laura was the daughter of Jim Barber and Matilda Moser. Laura died April 22, 1950 at the age of 80. They had two children, Mammie Lee Owen b. 5-2-1895 d. 7-23=1981 and Carrie Ludella Owen b. 10-25-1899 and d. 5-17-83.

      13 x. Jeremiah Nathaniel Owen b. 2-5-1870 d. 8-12-1938 m. Columbia Saunders
