David, I have asked Wade Marion from whom you no doubt got some of this incorrect information to correct it but he never has so I thought I would try you. If you will look at offspring of Eliza Marion and Sir Peyton Owen you will find their first son Thomas Owen B. 1846 based on information in 1850 Census, m. Mary Susan Poindexter Nov. 25, 1873. They had three offspring, Julius, my grandfather, Byron and Ellen. Wade somehow has Julius and all his descendants as Marions!!! Same is true for descendants of Byron. I am also listed and I would prefer it said living Owen or my married name but that is no biggie. Thank you for correcting this as I am sure you will. Do you have any other information about Sir Peyton Owen--know his ancestry back to British Soldier Thomas Owen and forward to present but do not know why an orphan, raised by his grandfather, Leonard Scott Sr. would be called Sir. Also would love to know how much land he owned--I still have 7 acres of it but in Heritage of Surry County book it says 2000 acres and that seems a bit much. Anyway.........SOM To quickly find check my mother-Lemmie Bowen b.2-10-1917, d. 3-4-1996 m. 7-15-1935. My father's name is Ray Coell OWEN s/o Julius Peyton Owen, s/o Thomas Owen, s/o Sir Peyton Owen, s/o Thomas Owen Jr. and Polly Scott, s/o Thomas Owen Sr. and Margaret Hunter

That is awesome! My last name is Mahan. I have procrastinated and do not have dates on all my cousins. I have meant to write one member of each family and get those as well as offspring but have not done so. This is all I have on the Owen family except BACK and it doesn't go very far as they descend from a British soldier who married Margaret Hunter in early 1780's and moved with her family to what is now Old Richmond and there had a blacksmith shop. My Thomas who married Polly Scott died very young in a house raising accident according to all his brothers who moved away from N. C. Most of this information came from John Hunt, descendant of Sir Peyton Owen. A researcher did the work for him and I just retyped it into Word so I could send it to others. Incidentally, these are the other families I am researching in case you too are working on any of them. Hunter, Scott, Martin, Poindexter, Moser, Kiger, Bowen, Phillips, Pettit, Sprinkle, Carmichael, Hauser, Coleman, Hunt, Howard, Ashburn, Taylor,Binkley, Cox----- Sorry I don't have more dates for you, but as i told you, I am just starting. This DID not come through into the e-mail as I typed it, hope you can follow it. SOM

      l. Thomas Owen was born between 1775 and 1794.[1] Thomas died before November 8, 1822 in North Carolina.

      2. He married Polly Scott in Stokes County, North Carolina. The marriage bond is dated January 31, 1815. Polly was born between 1791 and 1794. Polly was the daughter of Leonard Scott Sr. and Nancy Butts Martin. Polly died before November 8, 1822 in North Carolina. Thomas was employed as a farmer in Surry Co, N. C. In the 1820 Census, Thomas was listed as a head of household in Surry County, N. C. His household consisted of two males under 10 years of age, one male 26-45 (Thomas), two females under 10, and one female 26-45 (Polly). The two boys would be Peyton and Leonard Owen; the two girls may have been two daughters who did not survive their parents. Also listed as heads of households in Surry County were David Owen, age 26-45 and Joseph Owen, age 45 or over. As yet, we have not been able to establish their relation to Thomas Owen, but David Owen’s age and the fact that David served as one of the administrators of Thomas’ estate suggests that Thomas and David were brothers.

His estate was probated in Surry County. North Carolina. Foster Phillips and David Owen were named administrators. The administrators submitted their account of the estate sale on November 8, 1822. A further account submitted to the Surry County Court in May Term 1825 showed that the estate had assets of $543.721/2; however, once the administrators’ five-percent commission of $27.15 and debts of $402.86 were deducted, only $113.71 ½ remained.

The heirs of Thomas Owen were Peyton Owen and Leonard Owen, both minors. On December 12, 1825 in Stokes County, North Carolina, Leonard Scott Sr. and Charles Scott signed a bond in the amount of $400 for Leonard Scott Sr to serve as their guardian. Leonard invested the money remaining in the estate, and submitted annual accounts of the interest earned to the Stokes County Court. His final account, dated March term 1836, when Peyton Owen came of age, indicates that the sum stood at $206.06 ¼, “returned by the guardian for Paton & Leonard as legal heirs of Thomas Owens, and Leonard being dead entitles Paton to the whole…as his legacy.”
Thomas Owen and Polly Scott had the following children:

      + 2 i. Peyton Owen was born circa 1816.

3 ii. Leonard Owen. Leonard died before March, 1836 in North Carolina.

      l. Thomas Owen was born between 1775 and 1794.[11] Thomas died before November 8, 1822.
