Hey David.
I am just getting started to work out the Marshall side of my line. But I noticed that you do have a few things wronge .
Matthews 1st wife was Elisabeth Jones. married in 1806
Jona Anise Marshall was the daughter of Matthew Marshall and Elisabeth Betty Owens.married in 1865. Matthew's 2nd wife.
Elisabeth Owen was 1st married to Jesse Whitfield and had 1 daughter by him Emily Whitfield.
Jona A Marshall married Pinkney Ruffus Bowman son of George W Bowman Sr. and Mary Smith. I do have marriage liscense or other info to prove these names and dates.
I will have to get back later to give you the rest of the line. I do not know how to download this easiy so I would have to tyoe it out or you can see it on Ancestry.com let me know thanks Kathryn
I conclude from the message below that Elizabeth's maiden name was Owens rather than Whitfield as I had thought. One of the sources farther down indicated that her maiden name was Whitfield. (DWM - 2011)

Hi David, Thanks for letting me know about the disc. I have my great grand father Matthew Marshall married to a Elizabeth " Betsy" Owens Whitfield, married Dec, 26, 1865.
Elizabeth was married to a J.T Whitfield and was neigboros to Matthew's family in 1860 census.
I also have that the Matthew Marshall of the 1870 census shows Elizabeth, Emily, Jona and a Matthew age 81( which I think is my Matthewa father or Grand father.) maybe when I get your disc and start on this side again I will be able to straighten out the difference. Can you give me the name and email of Don Shelton.
I have done very little on the Marshall side but would like to go that way next. I do Have info on Jona Anise Marshall Bowman and her Husband and children. and will send that to you if you would like that. thanks and hope to hear back from you again. Kathryn Whitaker

Until recently (1993) it was assumed that Elizabeth Jones was Matthew's one and only wife. However, there was another marriage in Stokes County December 26, 1865, between a Matthew Marshall and Elizabeth T. Whitfield. Because of the late marriage date, every researcher thought that this Matthew was the son of Richard who was the son of Matthew, Sr. (See *.1.7.4.1, in DESCENDANTS OF MARTIN MARSHALL AND ALLIED FAMILIES, 2nd edition, pg. 55, September, 1994 by David Marshall) However, Don Shelton of Winston Salem, North Carolina has a copy of Matthew, Sr's. pension papers from The War of 1812. In those papers, Elizabeth states that Matthew died July 6, 1876, that her maiden name was Elizabeth T. Whitfield , that Matthew's first wife was Elizabeth Jones, that the first wife had been dead about 29 years, and that she, herself was 50 years old. There was quite an age difference between them.
