David, I received this from one of Sir Peyton Owen's descendant, Larry Choplin. He has sent me lots of "stuff", but this was the most interesting and the bit about Sir Peyton"s home which I am going to cut and paste. I did share with him your Sir Peyton Owen file and I should have asked first. I am sorry, but as it was on line, I thought you would not mind.
From Larry Choplin: I did not find Peyton's farm until about 2 years ago. It was still intact, but in poor state of repair. There is a house that has been built in front of Peyton's house, and one of his descendants lives there. She is a widow, and I think her name is Brown. I made a notation on the map that states "Brown, 147 Robert Owens Road, Shoals"
There were many land records in the Surry County Court House in Dobson. Peyton owned 6,000 acres in Shoals.
I did ask him about the 6000 acres and he could not remember where he got that number and was going to try to find something on the land grand.

This was attached to Shirley's message:

John Wesley CHOPLIN (1884) was a descendant of Eliza Ann MARION, believed to be a descendant of Benjamin MARION, who came to America from France. Benjamin was a Huguenot exiled from France in 1690. A Marion heirloom known as the "Huguenot Cup" was brought to this country by Benjamin Marion. A copy of the letter received by Benjamin at that time reads as follows: "Your damnable heresy will deserves more in this life than purgation by fire which awfully awaits you in the next - But in consideration of your youth and worthy connections, our mercy has condescended to commute your punishment to perpetual exile. You will, therefore, instantly prepare to quit your country forever, for if after 10 days from the date hereof, should you be found in any part of the Kingdom, your miserable body shall be consumed by fire, and your impious ashes scattered on the winds of Heaven.
