    Harry Hughes Clement
    CLEMENT MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Harry Hughes Clement, age 92, of Mt. Airy, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Clement was born in Surry County, June 18, 1916 to William Orville and Ora Marshall Clement. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII; was a retired butcher; and a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Pam Clement of Dobson; grandchildren, Kendra Eldridge and husband, Jason, Mackenzie Whitaker and fianc?, Jimmy Gillespie; and Tyson Clement; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Whitaker; and a brother and sister-in-law, James and Opal Clement of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clement was preceded in death by his loving wife, Clara Goad Clement. A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery by the Rev. June Haislip with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until the hour of the service and at other times at Mr. Clement' s home at 732 Old Hwy 601. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Ln, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice and especially to special caregivers, Elva and Donald Stephens for the tender care given to Mr. Clement during his illness.
