    David,

Warren W. Atkinson and Lilla Belle Marion were my grandparents. They were married and divorced twice. Grandmother later married Houston Bean, whom she also divorced. According to SSDI, grandmother was born, September 28, 1896. She died in July-1883, [This must be 1893 rather than 1883 - DWM] High Point, NC. (Guilford, NC). Grandfather was born, August 15, 1886, Surry CO., NC., and died, July 15, 1962, probably High Point, NC. They were married, December 26, 1911, Surry CO., NC. Their marriage license shows Warren, 25 and Lilla 15. They were married at the residence of A. D. Marion, Eldora, Surry CO., NC. Their wedding license notes the parents of Warren as father W. H. Atkinson and mother Nannie Atkinson, of Surry CO., NC. Lilla's parents were noted as father A. D. Marion and mother E. E. Marion. My grandfather Warren was married at least five times:-)).

    David Marshall,
I just discovered the below OBIT concerning Kermit Wesley Marion. It notes his mother was Emma "Hollyfield" Marion, not "Armstrong". This leads me to believe the gedcoms showing Abraham D. Marion marrying Emma Armstrong, 24 SEP 1895, Dobson, Surry, North Carolina may all be in error, or at the least, not referring to the same Abraham D. Marion. This could explain the reason why researchers have been unable to identify Emma's parentage.

It is interesting a James Holyfield is shown as a boarder living with Emma and Abraham at the time of the 1900 census.

    David,
Hope things are well on your end? It's been hot here in Columbus, which is usual for this time of year. What did we do before airconditioning?

With some help, I found the death records for Abraham and Emma E.

Abraham Dozier Marion d.9-2-1945 Guliford CO., NC. Emma Armstrong Marion d.12-21-1948 Guliford CO., NC.

I also hope you can answer a question for me concerning the other Emma Holyfield listed in your gedcom file. Can you advise if there's a marriage record, and/or source for the one you have listed? I've discovered two separate IGI files on Family Search Org, one showing Emma Holyfield, b.abt 1878, as the daughter of C. C. Holyfield and Caria Snow.

The other IGI shows the same marriage you do, Emma Holyfield and
    D. A. Dockery, 4 Mar 1897. As you know, I've been hunting my own Emma E. Holyfield, and she was also born in 1878. Unfortunately the 1880 Surry CO., Federal Cenus doesn't show an Emma Holyfield in Columbus Holyfield and Cary (Snow) Holyfield's household, but it does show a daughter Cary A. Holyfield, 2 years of age, and another daughter Eliza P. Holyfield 4 years of age. First off, I am trying to determing if there is proof and/or a record or source, that Dockery did marry an Emma Holyfield, and hoping you can advise the details. Your help will be appreciated. Warren

Abraham married Emma HOLYFIELD on 24 Sep 1895 in Surry County, North Carolina. Emma (daughter of John Martin HOLYFIELD and Nancy Alice HUMPHRIES) was born about 1878; was buried in Surry County, North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 7.  Emma HOLYFIELD was born about 1878 (daughter of John Martin HOLYFIELD and Nancy Alice HUMPHRIES); was buried in Surry County, North Carolina.

    David,
I thought you'd like the answer to the question I'd asked about A. D. Dockery and his wife Emma Holyfield.

There was a Cary A. Holyfield, 2 years of age, shown living in the household of C. C. and Caria A. "Snow" during the 1880 Surry CO., NC., Census, I don't know how you get Emma out of Cary A., but the below is pretty clear cut.
