    DEATH RECORDS
Obituary from WINCHESTER STAR dated 14 Feburary 1896
Thomas W. Marshall was born in Surrey County, North Carolina, November 27, 1823 and died of pneumonia at his residence three miles north of Winchester, Kansas, February 4th 1896, aged 73 years, 3 months and 8 days.
When he was seventeen years old he moved to Missori and later in 1857 or '58, he came to Kansas settling upon the place where he died.
His death was very sudden and unexpected. On Monday of the week preceding his death he went to Leavenworth to meet his wife Orilla, who had been called there by the death of her brother. Wednesday they returned and Thursday he went to Nortonville. He complained on his return of feeling somewhat indisposed but did not give up altogether until the very last. On the day preceding his death he was out of doors a short while. Aabout 10 o'clock Tuesday morning he breathed his last. Suddenly as death came it found him ready. He was conscious and expressed himself as having hope that all was well.
Brother Marshall was well and favorably known having been for nearly forty years a resident of Jefferson County, and in that time establishing a reputation for integrity of character.
He was united with the Baptist church but recently became a member of the Christian Church of Winchester, from which church he was buried February 6th.
    "His Works do follow him."

!Obituary Winchester Star 24 February 1887 Winchester, Kansas
Mrs. Frances Marshall, died at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. John Grimes in Clinton Co., MO., February 9th 1887 aged 89 years. Her remains were brought to Winchester and the funeral sermon was preached in the Christian Church by Rev. R. S. Cook of the Baptist Church at Lansing. From the church the body was conveyed to the Wise Cemetery and there laid away to rest.
Mrs. M's maiden name was West and she was married to Alias Marshall in Amherst Co. VA. They came to Jefferson County, Kansas in 1855. The husband died at the homestead on Walnut Creek, June 3, 1865.

!Twelve children were born to the couple--nine boys and three girls. Only three are living--Mr. Thomas Marshall, Rev. Frank H. Marshall, and Mrs. Sarah J. Grimes. The deceased was one of the original members of Hebron Church (Baptist) which was organized in 1857. This association erected a chruch building near Walnut Creek, in Jefferson township in 1878, of which Rev. Henry W. Marshall was pastor until his death. The membership has grown steadily until it now numbers about 140. It is certainly very consoling to the relatives and friends of the deceased to know that she passed away with the full knowledge that a beautiful home, a home aboutding in perfect happiness and contentment awaited her beyond the confines of her earthly habitation, eternal'never-ending, and blessing beyond any finite imagination.

!Martin is buried in the family cemetery; go down "Dusty Trail" off Baux Mountain Road in Forsyth County, NC. I have visited his grave site. Marshall 0043, pg. 2 - Letter from Nancy Lynn (Marshall) Reu.

Marshall 0152, pg. 4 - This source gives his first wife's name as Susanna Basel. I can find no basis for this, but there are other Marshall's who think that might have been her name.

Marshall 0163, p. 1 - Letter from Michael Marshall. He speculates that Martins first wife might have been named Sarah Boswell. There are family stories that his first wife was Sarah Basil. Michael says that he has seen Boswell spelled several different ways similar to Basil. If that speculation eventually shows merit, that it is possible that Martin's first wife could have been Eleanor's (his second wife's) sister.

According to the documentation below Martin's first name was William. I have no other confirmation about this. (DWM)
