  1. 4.  Hoy Archibald MOOSE was born on 28 Jun 1903 in Mount Pleasant, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; died on 30 Jan 1991 in Mount Pleasant, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; was buried on 2 Feb 1991 in Mount Pleasant, Cabarrus County, North Carolina.

    Notes:

    Second of four generations of pharmacists, he led his community in government,
    public service, church and professional life. His funeral was at the St. James
    United Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant where he was elder emeritus.
    Interment was in the church cemetary next to his wife, Polly. Mr. Moose,
    former mayor and town board of commissioners member, owned and operated Moose
    Drug Co. The company was founded in about 1882 by his father, the late Dr. A.
    W. Moose, and his uncle, Dr. Paul Moose. Past president of the N. C.
    Pharmaceutical Association, he was named North Carolina Pharmacist of the Year
    in 1966. In 1969 he was Mount Pleasant Jaycees' first Man of the Year. He
    helped form the town's first volunteer fire department and once was its chief.
    He also helped start the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society, which renovated
    the former Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute into a history museum. After
    graduating from Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute, he earned his pharmacy
    degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy in 1927. He was a charter
    member of the Mount Pleasant Lions Club and a founder of the Mount Pleasant
    Booster Club.
    Second of four generations of pharmacists, he led his community in government,

    Born in Surry County near Pilot Mountain 19 November 1879 and died at Elkin in
    Surry County on 22 August 1949 with burial in the Hollywood Cemetary in Elkin.
    He was married at Pilot Mountain on 24 October 1897 to Charlotte "Lottie"
    Harrell who was born 20 June 1880 and died 26 April 1974.

    "Bill" Whitaker had several business interests in Elkin including Real Estate,
    Insurance, an agency for the "Hupmobile", and owned a grocery store until he
    died. He was the first Fire Chief for the Elkin Fire Department. Bill and
    "Lottie" were prominent in Church and Civic affairs in Elkin where they lived.

    The marriage of W. W. Whitaker of Pilot Mountain and Lottie Whitaker of Pilot
    Mountain was performed by Noah Fulk on October 24, 1897 at 4 P. M. in Pilot
    Mountain, North Carolina. Witnesses were Thanie James and Jennie Simmons.

    Following are personal memories that Mim gave to Eleanor Hayes Myrick during
    the summer of 1972.

    October 24, 1897 -- Mim was 16 and Papa 17 -- were married and lived in Pilot
    Mountain 4 years until Mother was 6 weeks. Moved to Elkin for 1 year, then to
    Fries, Virginia for 1 year, then back to Elkin. Papa ran a store for his
    father in Elkin and sold caskets, Singer sewing machines and furniture.

    Their house on Church Street in Elkin was built in 1912 by the Penny family.
    Papa bought it an moved in in 1917.

    William married Charlotte Eleanor HARRELL, (Lottie) on 24 Oct 1897 in Pilot Mountain, Surry County, North Carolina.     Following are personal memories that Mim gave to Eleanor Hayes Myrick during
    the summer of 1972.

    When Mim was 5 years old, her mother died -- 1n 1886. Washburn Nichols married
    Aunt Priscilla Marshall at Guilford and took Mim home with them to their White
    Plains home. When Mim was about 8 she moved to the home of Uncle Dick and Aunt
    Minnie Marshall and lived with them 5 years. Her father married Ellen
    Marshall, her mothers sister, 4 years after her mother's death. Their children
    were Bennie, Roy, Sparger, and Sadie. When 15 Mim went home to live.

    October 24, 1897 -- Mim was 16 and Papa 17 -- were married and lived in Pilot
